On 2 July 2019, the delegates of the 22nd Diplomatic Session of the HCCH signed the Final Act of, and thus adopted, the 2019 Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil or Commercial Matters.
This new Convention´s aim is to reduce litigation costs in cross-border dealings and to promote effective access to justice. It has been designed to promote better management of transaction and litigation risks in international trade. Once ratified, the Convention will facilitate the access to justice for businesses and citizens through the recognition and enforcement of judgments by the courts of signatory countries. Uruguay has signed, as the first State, the new Convention.The EU Commission has begun to start the process of preparing EU accession to the Convention. El 2 de julio de 2019 en la Conferencia de la Haya sobre Derecho Internacional Privado, se ha aprobado la “Convención sobre el Reconocimiento y Ejecución de Sentencias Extranjeras en Materia Civil y Comercial”. Este nuevo Convenio facilita entre los estados contratantes el reconocimiento y la ejecución de sentencias extranjeras. Uruguay ha sido el primer estado en firmar el Convenio.
